What's your theological worldview?

I took an interesting quiz today designed to determine your "theological worldview" (whatever that means). Now, a quick disclaimer: No, I don't think a 50-question multiple choice quiz can accurately capture much of your spiritual feelings. Also, I think there is some serious bias in the questions and a lot of room for interpretation on some of the horribly ambiguous questions. Nevertheless, I don't think it's completely depraved, er, worthless, so give it a go here!

But, as usual, there is a catch! You MUST return here and post your results. MUST! That's right, no agency. Sorry. I found out I have a dictatorial worldview that has no respect for human choice. My actual results are in the comments...

Here's what it told me:

You are Emergent/Postmodern in your theology. You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don't think they connect to modern culture very well. No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue. Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess if you consider that the Mormon church isn't an "old church" compared to the Catholic or Protestant ones I guess I can more or less agree with that. I also found it interesting that not close behind was "Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan." I have no idea what that means. But I was certainly glad to see that I am only 25% Fundamentalist. Woohoo!

Emergent/Postmodern 75%
Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan 68%
Classical Liberal 68%
Neo orthodox 64%
Charismatic/Pentecostal 57%
Modern Liberal 50%
Roman Catholic 43%
Reformed Evangelical 36%
Fundamentalist 25%

You scored as a Classical Liberal
You are a classical liberal. You are sceptical about much of the historicity of the Bible, and the most important thing Jesus has done is to set us a good moral example that we are to follow. Doctrines like the trinity and the incarnation are speculative and not really important, and in the face of science and philosophy the surest way we can be certain about God is by our inner awareness of him. Discipleship is expressed by good moral behaviour, but inward religious feeling is most important.

I guess thats pretty descriptive, although I don't think I know enough about the gospel to really make the right calls on some of the questions. Also, I'd never heard of Bishop Spong or Karl Barth before.

Classical Liberal 68%
Neo orthodox 64%
Emergent/Postmodern 61%
Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan 50%
Modern Liberal 46%
Charismatic/Pentecostal 46%
Roman Catholic 43%
Fundamentalist 29%
Reformed Evangelical 18%

Some of those theologists I knew nothing about, so two questions should be thrown out. Also I think with religion that it is deep and very personal and can not be measured. To categorize someone's inner beliefs into percentages this and percentages that is vain! Views, experiences, reading, praying and change these constants at anytime. So my general feeling is BAH HAMBG~! My inner faith is between God and Me, not man's measurements with me.

You scored as a Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan
You are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God's grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavly by John Wesley and the Methodists.

Okay, first of all, I am not totally depraved! Other than that, I think this survey (as Mom stated eloquently) is not enough to comprehend my own very personal relationship with God. I don't think it's an unbiased instrument, either!

Mom, Diana, I agree 100%--in fact I think you're making the same point I did in the original post, to wit: "Now, a quick disclaimer: No, I don't think a 50-question multiple choice quiz can accurately capture much of your spiritual feelings. Also, I think there is some serious bias in the questions and a lot of room for interpretation on some of the horribly ambiguous questions."

Now getting beyond that, what do you think about some of the specific statements it tries to make about the members of our family (other than the ones that clearly don't jive with Mormon doctrine)?

Do you agree that "Discipleship is expressed by good moral behaviour, but inward religious feeling is most important"? I personally really like the thought in Mom's and Diana's diagnoses that says God "enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us."

The point is, there are some obvious flaws to the methodology here, but I think there are also some valid and interesting points to be made and discussed. What say ye?
